How to Make a 9 Patch Country Raggedy Quilt Pillow

This 16" charming country raggedy 9 patch pillow is quick and easy to make. It is just right for the novice sewer/quilter and will add country charm to any room in your home.

You will need:

- nine 5" single squares of quilt batting

- nine 7" double squares of fabric

Place one piece of quilt batting in between two pieces of a fabric square.
Make sure the fabric batting is in the center and the pretty sides of the fabric square are on the outside. Pin in place.
Stitch diagonally across the square going through all 3 layers. Do this to all the squares.
This is what your 9 squares should look like.
Stitch the other corners on each square diagonally making an "X" on each square. Do this to all 9 squares.
Place your 9 squares flat on a table the way you would like them to be in your finished pillow.
Let's make the 9 quilted squares into rows.

Place the top right square and the middle right square pretty sides together.

Stitch a 1" seam.
Place the bottom right square to the center right square and stitch a 1" seam.

The right row is done.

Do the same to the center and left rows to form 3 rows of 3 squares.
Stitch the 3 rows together once again using a 1" seam.  First stitch the center row to the right row.  Then stitch the left row to the center row.

You should have one big square of 9 smaller squares sewn together.

Using other fabric, cut a backing to your pillow the same size as your 9 patch pillow front that you just made.

Place the backing and 9 patch pillow front together pretty sides out. Pin around the outer edge.  Leave a 4" opening to stuff your pillow.

Stitch a 1" seam around the outer edge of your pillow going through all layers including the back.

Don't forget to leave the 4" opening for stuffing.

Cut slits on ALL seams of your pillow. The smaller the slit, the more your 9 patch pillow will "rag".

Wash your pillow in Cold/Cold.  Dry your pillow in the dryer.

Stuff your pillow with fiberfill.  Machine stitch or hand stitch the opening closed using a 1" seam.

Your charming country raggedy 9 patch pillow is finished!
